One more thing to ring in being a big girl...We got her first haircut! This was a big deal for all of us, including grandparents who were queasy at the thought of us chopping her curls off. I assured all of us this was just to make her ends health and the curls would be back. But just in case, we got a few last shots of her weighted down ringlets.
Instead of washing her hair and combing it out straight, we decided it would be less traumatic to just straighten her hair with a flat iron and cut from there. She looked totally different with straight hair. Seems like the curls are part of her personality.
The first SNIP! No turning back now. It really was just a trim; I promise. And the stylist said, the longer you wait to get a haircut, the more you have to cut off since the ends get so ragged. So I was glad we went when we did.
This is Katie's "I'm scared to death but you people act like I should be enjoying every minute of this" face. Talk about a deer in headlights!
Finally facing the mirror. Inspecting every cut with an attitude not unlike Liam Neeson's in the movie Taken.
I guess it's over at this point. The stylist is smiling - it looks a bit like a nervous smile, wondering what Katie is going to say or do next.
And at last, we got the flip of the head just like a 90s Vidal Sassoon commercial. And a slight smile in there too. She was pretty pleased.
What hair cut is complete without a style to go along with it? She got a little bang braid and ribbon...Scroll down to see the immediate sass that the braid brought.
My memory may be a little foggy, but I'm pretty sure she sang "I'm too sexy for this braid" at that point.
One quick shot of the back - straight as a board and perfectly trimmed!
For being such a good girl and easy customer, she got to get a prize from the prize machine. It was a pretty flower ring which she wore all the way home and then lost somewhere between getting out of the car and walking into the house (approximately 7 steps).

I can't believe how brave she was!! Her hair still looks way cute, and I love her little braid!
