Fistful of Firsts

Katie has had lots of firsts in the past 10 days! Most of them are parent induced, but fun nonetheless.

Last weekend, Katie took her first road trip and we went to the beach with the girls. She did really well in the car which the made the trip a lot less stressful. While at the beach, we ventured onto the sand to look at the ocean. The sun was so deceptive making us think it was even slightly warm. It was so cold and we actually only spent about five minutes out there.

On Sunday night (a week ago), Katie slept on her back for the first time. (She's been in her car seat for night time sleep since she was born.) She has slept on her back now for a week and is doing great! She goes to sleep by 10 pm and sleeps until 6 or 7 am.On Tuesday, Katie had her first snow! No pictures to prove it, but we did look out the window at the flakes!

On Wednesday, she had her first stay at home time with just Daddy! My bible study group started back up again and Katie stayed home with dad for the evening. They had loads of fun together and both were in one piece when I got home!

On Thursday, she sat in the Bumbo seat for the very first time. She did really well in it but still has a ways to go on the whole "head control" issue. We watch a Praise Baby DVD and she was very attentive to it for about 7 minutes, which must be an eternity to a baby! While we were watching the DVD, she said her first word: "bubbles." The kids on the screen were playing with bubbles and I whispered the word "bubbles" and my mom jumped out of her skin thinking Katie had said it. It was hilarious! Baby Einstein better watch out for Baby Katie!
On Friday, we went to the zoo with friends. It was so much fun. There's not much for a 10 week old to do there, but I think she enjoyed the smell of the elephants and the sky lights in the bird house. Here's Katie seeing how her hands measure up to a gorilla's hands.
On Saturday, she hosted her first party here as we had friends over for the premiere of LOST. She actually stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Jones for the first half of the party, but she did really well for the actual premiere episode. But, she's very confused since she missed the first four seasons.

On Sunday, we finally made it to church as a family for the first time. Katie got all dressed up in a blue dress that was mine when I was a baby. She did well in the nursery and we did well getting there on time! It was a big accomplishment for us all!

This week is a little less busy, but we're going to a mom's group at church tomorrow and then to visit some people I used to work with a few years ago. On Sunday, we're playing host again for the Super Bowl. Our Sunday school class is coming over for the big game. It's a tradition we started a few years ago and we enjoy having people over for the party!

Aw, Rachel, you look gorgeous in all of your photos! But where's my head? I'm supposed to be looking at that precious baby of yours! That pic of Doug and Katie looking in the mirror is hilarious and very cute. And I'm rather sad we don't live closer because I would have loved to watch the Lost season premiere with you guys! We'll get the kiddos caught up on the first 4 seasons one of these days...

The song by Stevie Wonder (Isn't She Lovely?) was playing in my brain when I looked at this blog. My goodness! What a grown girl! And already loves looking at herself in the mirror!

Rachel, you look really thin in your church photo, and your hair is getting longer. Katie definitely looks like Doug, so maybe you can squeeze some Wilhelm genes into the next one, while you try and squeeze into your regular jordache jeans. NTways, has anyone bought you a flippin baby book yet for all these firsts? PS I read in one of those baby/parenting books when i was shopping for you that babies weren't supposed to watch any tv until after 2 years. So way to screw up your baby...

Gabe?

Welcome to 2009! This blog IS Katie's baby book! Melissa and Lindsay and Rach were recently discussing how they could download their blogs --save it --so that 25 years from now, Dylan and Katie and Cole will have something to "flip thru".
