We went to opening day at the fair last week with some friends. It was also $1 entry day, so it was crowded! But the weather was really nice and most of the crowds were at the bigger rides, so it wasn't bad at all.
FOOD - The food at the fair is the worst and the best all rolled into one expensive, calorie laden adventure. We started out with a corn dog and Fiske fries and some fried okra. Then after those settled, we had some of the mini donuts that come in a bag of 28 for $5. That sounds like a lot - but for 6 adults and 3 kids, I could've used another bag. But I restrained myself and made do with one bag for all of us. Katie and her sweet tooth loved them!
ANIMALS - These are always a hit at the fair with kids. I'm not a fan of the germs or the smell - but that's what hand sanitizer is for, right? There were ducks, donkeys, zebras, llamas, parrots, goats, and sheep at the petting zoo. We also saw cows, rabbits, and chickens in the livestock area. Katie wasn't thrilled with the cows since they weren't behind fences or gates. Too close for her comfort!
IN THE AIR - The view from a stroller must get really old to a toddler - seeing all those legs and nothing else! So Katie got a little bit of sky time to really check out the place! She seemed entranced by the lights and the music, and of course, the people watching!
RIDES - We prepurchased some ride tickets but lots of the kiddie rides weren't working and the ones that were working had height requirements that Katie didn't meet or Doug and I exceeded. So we were left with the carousel. Which she has ridden plenty of times before - but this time was terrified of riding on the animals. So each time she rode it, she sat in one of the sleighs with me or Doug. Lots of the pictures from the carousel were blurry and after talking with Lindsay - I think it's because it was the fastest carousel ever...No wonder I was dizzy for 3 days after!
