A Day at the Museum

A planned trip to the strawberry patch changed into a morning spent at the State Museum due to a total downpour of rain! Ashley and I made a quick change in plans and route and headed to the museum for a really fun morning. It's kind of fun to take them when I don't feel like I really have to teach Katie about all the different things there - it's much less responsibility taking a toddler than a middle schooler who does indeed need to stop and read every plaque and understand all about history and science.

As for Katie and Caroline, they got to just enjoy the sights and sounds that the museum had to offer. They really loved the science floor best. There were actually things they could touch and little activities right on their eye and ability level.

Katie had a good time sending different types of objects down this peg board and catching them before they hit the ground.

There was a big ball that was blown high into the air by a wind machine and she was totally enthralled with it. She loves to see new things and really figure out how they work! She could've stared at the ball being in the air all day.

The museum also has a nice kid's discovery room where everything is very toddler friendly. There was a treehouse you could climb in and around. This is Katie looking in from the outside at me on the inside!

Here is Katie driving the spaceship. She loved steering the wheel and tapping out commands on the keyboard.

I rate the museum an 8 out of 10 for the experience - definitely a decent price considering we don't have to pay for the kids under 3 (would've been better if I used my coupon from my entertainment book). I knock it down a few notches because many of the fun things on the science floor didn't really work. I pedaled a bicycle holding my 23 pound daughter trying to get the energy to move another ball into the air and it never moved. I consider that machine to be broken and not merely me being totally out of shape!
