1. Katie had her first night away from both of us on Easter eve. We were having friends over to the house and Doug's mom was watching Katie for us. It just worked out better to not go get her really late and risk interrupting her sleep. It was nice for us to get ready on Easter morning without her at our feet. Once we got dressed, we went to go pick her up and get her dressed for Easter. She didn't seem to distraught about us not being there when she woke up that morning - It was actually probably harder on us which just means we need to do it more often.
2. Katie wore this "dress" for the first and LAST time. I bought it at the Tot Trade - It's an 18 month dress but way too short to be worn as a dress even on a little baby. So the "dress" is retired, but it may reappear as a shirt over jeans in the early fall.
3. Katie started using her first hair product this month. Actually, there's two of them. I got Johnson and Johnson shampoo for curls and a detangler spray. The combination of them both has really helped with her post-nap bird nest look.
4. Katie attended her first big family event as "not the youngest cousin." Our early Easter at Lindsay's brought all 4 grandchildren together for the first time and Katie is officially no longer the baby of the group.
5. Katie got her first FRECKLE this month. It's on her left hand under her thumb close to her palm. I have one in almost the exact same place. Since the appearance of that one, we've found a few more.
6. Katie had her first mouthful of sand this month - and hopefully her last. When we were at the beach, she just wadded a bunch up in her fists and shoved it right in her mouth. She spit most of it out quickly but the rest of it she tried to get off with her hands which didn't help since her hands were still covered in sand. I gave her some juice to help wash it down but I could still hear sand gritting in her teeth which made my skin crawl.
7. Katie had her first blow out diaper SINCE her first birthday or maybe even longer. She had a bad week last week of lots of yucky dirty diapers and blew out of the diaper and onto the outfit. This used to happen ALL the time when she was younger but hasn't happened in MONTHS - so this was monumental and gross.
8. Katie had her first set of double skinned knees. She bit the dust at Sandhills recently when we were shopping. The fall got to both knees. She did a little bit of crying and a lot of LIMPING! She is such a drama queen. When we point to her boo-boos now, she puts the fake limp back on. It cracks me up. Madison, who happened to be with us at the time of the fall - also fell herself - She bit it even harder, face first and rolled right out of it with a smile! One tough cookie!
9. Katie has started making her first animal sound. It's "wufwuf" which sounds more like "whuwhu" but it's adorable and melts my heart. She keeps her lips as close as they can be and still be able to utter the sound. She does it whenever she hears a dog bark and also points to her ear as if to say "I hear a dog barking and it sounds like this: wufwuf."
10. Katie went on her first real slide by herself. She goes down her little slide at home a good bit by herself but never a really big one. On Saturday, we went to a park in Lexington with Shelley and Caleb and went all by herself on several slides. This one is actually the smaller of the three that she went down but the only one I got a good picture of.
And here's a bonus first - a first for me! I actually got a "month" post up on time, actually early!
This 17 month mark feels so weird because the next month she becomes 1 1/2. That just seems so grown up to me. So I am making the executive decision to just push pause - right now. Pause on growing up. Even if I have to put up with the tantrums or finicky eating - I will do it so I can continue to enjoy my baby girl at this moment.

I like your new layout! But for some reason I can't see any of your pictures for this post on my computer. :-( Happy 17-months to Katie!
