Two to the Core!

Katie is officially two and a half! These half birthdays have certainly stayed a big deal...in my head at least. I don't actually tell Katie that it's her half birthday, but I do everything in my power to make it a special day for her! This year, we did some Sandhills shopping and I accidentally dressed us alike! Then we went to a firend's surprise 30th birthday party at Sesqui and then capped it off at Chickfila with my dad!

She is talking so much more these days. She speaks in coherent complete sentences that aren't just repititions of what we say; they are frequently her own thoughts. She is so much fun to talk to and hang out with!

She still loves to color and play with play doh and read. She has also enjoyed playing with babies a bit more than she used to. She is quite the mother to them - wraps them up and feeds them and reads to them. Another new love is water guns! WOW - how did we go 2 1/2 years without water guns! She likes to stick the water gun in her nose and squirt away! I can imagine it doesn't feel good, but she laughs hysterically! She has started to enjoy music more. She will dance and sing along to some music from her preschool class. She'll even sing some on her own without being prompted!

A new milestone for her is sleeping in a big girl bed! We moved her in April and she's done really well. She's tried to get out a few times but will usually go right back to bed. Putting her to bed is still quite the process! Now that we lay with her to read and sing and pray, she wants us to "lay a little bit more" every night! It drags out bedtime close to 9pm sometimes!

She still isn't the best eater in the world. Her best meal is lunch. She typically does oatmeal or pancakes for breakfast and then a single chicken nugget and some sort of vegetable and a string cheese for dinner. It's crazy how little she eats sometimes!

We've toyed with potty training some. She just could care less about pull ups or big girl underwear. She doesn't care for the potty, whether it's hers or someone else's. She's very proud of her friends who are learning and even claps when they earn their potty rewards! I guess I will get serious about it soon. I was really hoping to have her potty trained before our beach trip this summer but that doesn't seem likely at this point.

We had two ear/sinus infections this spring. Both required antibiotics that were awful if you ask Katie. It was so annoying trying to give her two doses of this apparent "poison" each day for ten days. She just hated it! They were pretty rough on her stomach too and caused a good bit of throwing up as well!

She's wearing mostly 24 month and 2T clothes - but lots of 18 month shorts and dresses still fit. She weighs 27 pounds. She's in a size 8.5 shoe. She has all of her two year old molars now. Her hair is super long - about half way down her back. Her eyes still seem to fluctuate color between brown and hazel.

She is living up to the Terrible Twos as well. We do lots of time outs and "I'm sorry" and popping. She screams with frustration at little things all the time and can be such a whiner - about NOTHING! She thinks she should be able to dictate everything around her (like who should drive her places) and gets infuriated when she can't.

But she is without a doubt, the light of our lives! Her personality is strong for the most part but she can play "shy" with the best of them. We love you so much Katie! Happy Half Birthday!

That photo of Katie laying in the grass is FABULOUS! You need to hang that somewhere. What a cutie! Her cuteness more than makes up for her occasional whining and two year old behavior! :-)
