No Rules, Just Right

We have been wanting to let Katie run through the sprinklers some evening but the cards never really seem to fall into place for getting her in her bathing suit and swim diaper and all the other necessary things for this Type-A personality family!

But a few weeks ago, we broke the rules and just let her run wild - fully clothed!
It all started while she Doug was checking some of the sprinkler heads and zones for their correctness (or something like that). Katie was closely watching him and the entire process fascinated her (she's a little engineer in the making). She stood very close to the sprinklers in amazement as the water sprayed.

She eventually got brave and put her hands in the sprinkler and got sprayed herself - she was thrilled!

She spent the next 15-20 minutes (an eternity to a toddler) running through them all over the yard and the sidewalk.

The whole time I kept thinking she was going to fall and skin her knees on the cement or how cold she must be or how uncomfortable she must be in those wet clothes, but her face in the pictures pretty much proves me wrong!

This is her "where did the water go?" face after the sprinklers were shut down!

She looks like she's having so much fun. I've learned to let go (sorta... sometimes) of my need for there to never be a mess. Otherwise you make yourself crazy cause kids just LOVE to make messes, and it's so nice to see them have fun!
