You're Killing Me Katie

Many of you know about my concern over Katie's somewhat limited verbal vocabulary. She makes tons of signs and utters a few words, but we're lacking a bit in my opinion. However, my quiet/shy husband tells me to leave it alone and not consume myself with it - perhaps she is just quiet too.

Ok, I'm fine with that and I am working on not focusing on it. But she's done two things lately that just kill me.

We've been working on saying "more." She can certainly sign it and does so often. So I was trying to get her to actually SAY it and asked her "can you say more with your mouth" hoping she would talk since she knows what her mouth is. But what did she do? She stuck her hands inside her mouth and did the sign for "more" inside her wide open mouth and then smiled.

And now? I think she is saying a new word. What's the word? JESSICA - but it sounds like Juhjuh - similar to how she says JACK but it's been specifically after I have mentioned Jessica when we're saying bedtime prayers or driving to Jessica's house. She has done it twice now. Did I mention she still doesn't say MAMA, but JESSICA she can say.

Gotta love her - both Katie and Jessica!

Take a cue from Doug and don't worry about it! Dylan was a late talker too and now I think he talks quite a bit better than other kids his age.
