Funny How Time Slips Away

Ny little girl turned 14 months old last Thursday (1/14). I can't believe that 2 months have already passed since her birthday. She has changed so much since she turned one and most of it is for the better. She is consistently in a good mood which was not always the case before - she wasn't mad or bad all the time - just never really seemed too happy. I called it her contemplative phase. These days, she is all smiles and such a joy to be around. It's fun to watch her discover new things on her own and figure things out. She is very independent in most of her activities, but wants someone to watch her all the time. She loves attention - I think we created a monster by letting one grandmother watch her all day during the week and having her live with the other grandmother for the last 6 months. She gets constant attention and eats it up.

She is still wearing mostly 12 month clothes - I have tried a few 18 month pants and they are SO long on her. But I did buy some 18 month capris at the end of the summer that are working out really well as pants! Bless my short baby! She is in size 4 shoes but is almost ready to move up to size 5. Most of her shoes have been hand me downs so I am hoping for another batch of girl shoes coming my way as I am about to hand down her fours. She has two bottom teeth and four up top. She also has 3 molars (two top, one bottom) that are working their way in causing some very fussy times. New Year's Eve was one of the worst times for her - I have never seen her so pitiful and so inconsolable. It didn't help that she had an ear infection too, but I know the teeth were the main thing.

Katie is still addicted to the outdoors. She stands at the door waiting to go outside and just loves every minute of being out there. She will walk around and pick up everything and giggle and laugh as long as we let her stay. Which brings me to my next point...When it's time for her to come in, she's not a happy camper. And don't try to get this girl to do something she doesn't want to do. She's got sass and attitude that would not surprise anyone who knows me very well. She arches her back when you try to pick her up and screams and cries. At other times when she is mad, she will knock her head on the wall or the ground - not very hard, she controls it nicely - but she's certainly pitching a fit. It's quite comical. If the head knocking weren't enough, she then goes to a chair or the sofa and bites it. I guess it's better than trying to bite one of us or the dog. I need to get one of these tantrums on video just to document for her benefit one day!

She is becoming so much more vocal - she says Dada ALL the time. She says Da for Jack as I am sure the "J" sound is a pretty hard one to master (hopefully Elizabeth, Speech Therapist Extraordinaire can back me up). She also says "uh-uh" for uh-oh. For a while, she just said "uh" and then let her mouth hang open, but she's now added the second "uh." She is a pro at "bye-bye" and says it to everything that is going away - water in the tub, straw into her cup, and of course people leaving. The other word she says is "rock." She loves to put things in the rocking chair and then say "erock, erock, erock." My mom says "rock-a-rock-a-rock" and Katie has put the "a" sound at the beginning of rock. Too cute. I think I read somewhere that at this age, they should be adding one word a month...but I may have made that up. She understands WAY more than she says so I am guessing it's only a matter of time before she starts spouting off!

It's been a great month - and I have loved watching her learn and grow and play and sleep! She is such a delight to be around. I love you Katie-bug.

I ditto the tantrums. Ty is VERY good at them. Exceot he hits his head hard sometimes. He is the same way when you bring him inside. Its like ww2. Kicking and screaming. Geez. I love the biting the couch. Ty likes to hit me or whatever is in front of him. I think him and Katie could be a match for each other. Ty stats with his G-ma during the week too so i understand teh attention thing. I just started taking him to Mother Morning Out. He gets to play with other kids for the morning and is learning how entertain himself. I really woudlliek to get together one day for a playdate.
I LOVED the captions for Ty's pic. I couldnt pick, I liked them both. I knew you were the woman for the job! Good luck on the house. I know you are anxious!
