We made the decision to go last minute when my cousin Amanda called me and reminded me it was going on. (We graduated together.) Normally, I wouldn't have done something as crazy as going to see people I haven't seen in 10 years without the preparation of a snazzy new outfit and a friend to do my makeup and 3 weeks of dieting. But it turned out that being pregnant and going to this was a free ride to look large! I didn't care how big I looked because I had an excuse and truthfully I am not THAT vain! Plus, I had just my hair done (cut/colored a la Lauren at Wisteria Salon) so I was feeling breezy!
So Doug was a great sport and tagged along and we had a nice time. Some people had already trickled out, but there was still a nice turnout.
With one exception -- my life in high school consisted of doing things I am not proud of and being Gabriel's little sister. I definitely behaved myself at the reunion so we're ok there. But without fail, everyone's #1 question to me was, "How's your brother doing?" or "What's Gabe up to these days?" Did no one see the large protrusion from my stomach and inquire about that? Or what about the handsome man on my arm - was anyone curious about him? Nope - everyone was curious about Gabriel. Not that I mind talking about Gabriel because I am his biggest fan in the world and am so proud of everything he does and who he is, but come on folks! I'm a person too! Does this happen to any of you? Have you lived in someone's shadow for too long? Voice your concerns here!
So here's a quick picture of Doug and me from the Friday event. (Photo thanks to David for taking the picture since we obviously didn't come prepared!) It was great to see old friends and classmates!

Good post but you never told us what Gabe is up to...
For what it's worth, I thought you casted a formidable shadow of your own back in high school (please don't read that as a weight-related comment!), and one completely independent of Gabe.
I never thought of you as being his little sister...I thought of him as being your big brother. ;)
Great seeing you and Doug on Friday!
That sucks... didn't anyone want to know about baby girl Jones that's on the way? Cute picture of you and Doug!
Hey - i got plenty of "how's Ryan's?" Too!!!! What is that all about? Hate I missed you at Icy's - would love to see you soon. And by the way, I remember lots of great things about you - even things you can be proud of.
I'm sorry I missed you this past weekend! I had a million people asking me about my brother, too--and he's younger than me! How is it possible to live in your YOUNGER brother's shadow!? HA!
Anyway, you look great in the pic!
Hey Rachel! I just stumbled across your blog from Rachel Church's. It's good to see you are doing well. I wasn't able to go to the reunion over the weekend...but wish I had. I would be so excited to see your baby bump!!! Congratulations! Did you see many old friends from back in the day?!?
Carrie "Burnett"
I feel your pain, lol....as popular as Denny thought he was (I guess he was just a bit!) I was never called by name by ANY upper classman I was always "Hey it's Denny's little sister!" My 10 year HS reunion is this November and I'm sure I'll get some folks asking bout him too, though I don't have an exciting bump to show for which I'd think people would have asked about 1st?!
From the other end of that situation, being the oldest, I don't think people will ask Lauren at her's next year, how's your sister? I didn't have quite the same personality that you and Gabe do :) i think my reunion will be this fall. thats a good pic of you two!
